Things that i learned in the clss today

Rim

-Reconize good first steps
-Intuition and analysis
-Marriage of form intention

Questions that i should ask to myself about my sound
-what choices did you make in recording
-what did you gather
-listen to your clips for hints of sound structure

Materials for a narrative
introduction,Characters,conflict, and resolution

I should know list, monatage, documentation, voice as instrument, intuitio as touchstone to improve my project. I should used them.
Also, i should think about audience and connection, and before i start, i should do brainstorm.

Theme Sound Analysis and three questions

1. How would your describe the structures of this sound work?
I will use voices as instrument, and i will use some sounds for background.
Also, i think i will use circular introduction. For example, i put some words at first, and i will finish with that words.

2.Did the artist break the"no music rule", or just edge up to it with a careful use of "non-music" as defined in class.
There was one person who used music for background. People mostly listen to the person's voice, so people are not interrupted by the music. But i can say that the background was music. It has melody and rhythm. In my opinion, The person broke the "no music rule" because of the fact.

3.Why does this structure, or combination of structures, make sense for the artist's subject matter or content? Please explain
Sometime, people can not express and explain with sounds. They need specific words to make people understand easily. For example, when people explain their interesting things, they want to interview people and they want to tell people a tale of their experiences. The method is more effective than environmental sounds. However, if they combine voices and sounds(rhythm), it will make people more interested in the audio.

4.What forms of sounds, or sound qualities, support the subject matter of this audio work? Please explain and use the sound terms listed in the document provided earlier.
As i explained above question, I really like how people combine the voice and environmental sounds rhythmically. From the method, people can see that artists use human voice an instrument.(Voice as instrument)

Three questions which relate to my project
-Tell me you experience of playing gamble?
After i came to Syracuse University, I have nothing to do on weekend, so i usually go to Turning Stone Casino.
-How much have you earned from Casino in 24hours?
I have earned 1200 dollars on a day.
-How much have you lost from Casino in 24 hours?
I have lost 500 dollars on a day
-What kinds of sound do you hear in the Casino?
Sound of machine, sound of cheering, sound of yelling, etc
-Do you think you can record sounds in Casino? If you can not how are you going to record the sounds?
I think they will not allow me to record the sound, so i will record in my house, and i will act like i am in Casino, but i worry about sounds of machines.
I will ask my professor that i can use free-sound for the sound or not.

Friday Art of Creativity Reading Questions

Min Ji Kwon
Friday Art of Creativity Reading Questions

Go to:
http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/199203/the-art-creativity
What are the four steps to the creative process, in your own words?
The first step to the creative process is researching. People should research and study things that they are interested in, and they should be ready to create and accept other information.
The second step to the creative process is making your brain empty. People usually want to think in easy ways, and they only focus on common senses. They should get rid of that mind, and they should think newly. People should feel afraid of doing new things
The third step to the creative process is performing with the new mind. When you cannot think about new things, you should relax and do what you want. It will help you to imagine and innovate.
The final step to the creative process is showing and presenting you works to people. If you only know the new things, it is nothing, but if you share with other people. It will become useful.

What is functional fixedness and what are the problems that are associated with this way of thinking?
They will only think things that were already created in the world. They will forget to imagine, and they will only think about possibilities. When people create something, they should imagine, and they should try something that is impossible.

What are the benefits of group brainstorming?
According to the Researchers, people can know that when teams of people are working together on a problem, those groups that laugh a lot and they are more creative and productive than people who are dour and decorous counterparts. “Joking around makes good sense: Playfulness is itself a creative state.”

Explain a time when you used this (or parts of the) process in the past for a project or creative solution to an everyday problem. Do you think these stages were beneficial to the end result?
Every time when I do my project, I always research some information on Internet and from books. From the research, I get basic information and background. I usually discuss with my friends to understand the project more easily and deeply, and my friends and I share our ideas and advise each other about the ideas. After the discussion, I summarize what I planed and information from Internet, books and my friends. Finally, I imagine things, which are so creative, and I add to my plan and ideas that I got from the discussion. As like the project, when I have an everyday problem, I search on Internet and ask my friends to solve my problems. These two methods really help me to create and solve my problems because they tell me things, which I never imagine before.

Are there any methods for finding new ideas that tap into emotions, physical sensations, or actions, which serve as doorways to creativity?
I think fantasy books and comic books really help people to think creatively because usually, fantasy books and comic books talk about things, which do not exist in the world. People can get much information for future from them.

How would this kind of kinesthetic (physical movement), or emotional intelligence fair during the 1500-1800 in Europe?

Historical Roots
-Reformation 1500-1700 Europe:
Many people died because of witch-hunts. Maybe, common people could not do anything freely because the emperor and noble had strong power at the time, so they did not allow common people to live fairly.
-Renaissance 1500-1800 Europe: invention/science:
At the time, people started to invent, and they got interested in science. From the fact, people can know that people have some freedom to do with their mind and plan, but women could not be free as much as men could.
-Industrial Revolution 1700-1850 Western World: women- frail, dependent
At the time, women started to work as like men, so they could get little freedom.
-Art Press and Museums-Futurism, Surrealism, DADA, Fluxus:
According to the dictionary, Surrealism is 20th-century avant-garde movement in art and literature that sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind, for example by the irrational juxtaposition of images.
From the definition, people can know that people can live fairly.

What I learned on February,12,2010

Today, I learned that i should focus on pitch, Tone, Timbre, Rhythm when i listen sound, and i should guess what materials make the sounds.

From the Power point that my professor showed me, i could learn and feel many things. For examples, i could learn aspects of sound forms and abstract sound forms. When i listened the lecture, i tried understand how they affect people. I found out that music is made by Melody,Harmony and Beat. Also, i learned some historical events in the class such as
Historical Roots
-Reformation 1500-1700 Europe:many people died: witch hunts
-Renaissance 1500-1800 Europe:invention/science
-Industrial Revolution 1700-1850 Western World:women- frail,dependent
-Art Press and Museums-Futurism, Surrealism,DADA, Fluxus

February,12,2010

Pitch/Tone/Timbre/Rhythm
Focus on them when you listen
-Practice to listen these four things.
-What materials makes sounds

Constancy vs. Variation

How do artists/designers use sound to make people FEEL something?

Sound Forms and How They Affect Us
Perspective Space,"Realistic"
(Environmental sound)-thinking and reasoning/orderly and logical

Abstract sound Forms-Feeling and sensing/ acting and intuiting
-simultaneity
-Transitions through a balance between constancy and variation
-Timbre
-rhythm
-pitch/tone
-Non- Music
Abstract sound examples
-american beauty, nike,sunny philly
-John oswald, beethoven's ninth streched
-hugo ball

Music
-Melody:repeatable phrase
-Harmony
-Beat

Abstract sound interpretations

Historical Roots
-Reformation 1500-1700 Europe:many people died: witch hunts

-Art Press and Museums-Futurism, Surrealism,DADA, Fluxus

Underlying Our Interpretations
-Edgey: nature and the body are good
-Sublime: nature is awesome, or nature is dangerous
-Mysterious:rational education is for the working class, sensing and feeling are for the rich

(feb/05)notes and things that i learned in the class

If people put water into the computer by an accident, they should take off the battery,

People should know how to use time machine. It helps people to save documents safely, and speed of computer will be good if people do time machine,

Differences between KB and GB
kb-kilobytes
gb-gigabytes
kilo is smaller- approx 1000kb is 1mb
1000 mb is approx 1gb
In computer technology, the strength of a system is measured with the number of bytes it can handle, process or transfe

Objective
1) Research
2)Technical proficiency
3)History/contemporary/theories/criticality
4)Formal vocabulary/terms

The free sound project-www.freesound.org
Formal qualities
-simultanelty-things happening at the same time
-Point of view/listening
sound source position
-attack and decay
quickly volume goes up

Sound as beautiful education

Group2)
Five questions
1) From the video, i could feel that the forest is destroyed by people, and it relates to global warming.
People should stop making noise.
(map charts)
2)Because of sounds which people make, lyre bird copies the sound from people, and the fact shows people that people destroy the forest and make noise.
3)They think that Our technology and bad behavior destroy the nature. The sound is very complex.
4)After we finished watching the video, we could know that our technology and bad behavior destroy nature a lot, so there are many animals which are influenced by the pollution.
5) I really want to work with him because i did not know we can study about pollution and global warming through the unique way. It is very interesting to know how people destroy the forest from the sound from the bird.

Extra credit) How does Leni reifenstahl manifest power through the aesthetic choices ( forms, arrangement of forms) in her Nazi films?

Group 3)
Movement of lights
Group 1)
sound of music with some noise
