sto_mkwon(Stop animation)

I worked on this project with yuting because it was group work. As soon as we saw an umbrella, we imagined umbrella flies to the sky as like butterflies. We started developing our ideas, and finally we decided to create the movement of a caterpillar's evolution.

sou_mkwon_casino

It was very funny to make because it is about how i like to stay in Casino.
Usually, i go to Turning Stone Casino when i have nothing to do. Whenever I went to the casino, i lost money in this semester. When i lost money, I always regret that i did gamble. This piece shows a process of losing my money. It was so hard to create sound of casino because most casinos do not allow people to record anything, so I created the machines sound with sound of TV and my cellphone.

Abs_mkwon_final (Abstract Sound)

For this project, I recorded many different sounds by myself. To create rhythmical structure, I repeated same sound again and again. I really like the woman's voice. People told me they do not understand what the woman say exactly, but the voice makes the piece more interesting.

env_mkwon_final(Environmental sound Part 2)

I tried to tell people about a interesting story with various sound. Finally, I decided to create scary story. The story is about a girl who was killed by a ghost. For the story, I could put many various sounds such as sound of screaming and sound of ghost.
I really like the sound of heartbeat. The sound makes me nervous and scared. Mostly, I downloaded sounds from the website which my professor told me.

Video History Analysis and Ideation

What does video have to do with power?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BddVfcQX-v4

I watched a video which my professor posted on the blackboard.I think the video really relates to this question. From the video I c ould feel that Adolf Hitler used the effects of video to control his army. Adolf Hitler was an Austrian-born German politician and the leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party. He also established the Nazi Party. He was a great leader of army. He used many different methods to make soldiers to follow him without problems. Even though he was very cruel, many people like him in the past.

For example, by showing the image to his people, he made citizens and other people feel that there are many people who follow him, and the images also shows that people like their country and their leader.

What does video have to do with how we live our lives?

People who live in the world. All of them are affected by televisions and media everyday. Peopl

e can learn something from the televisions such as English, Chines, math, and science. They can get a lot of information such as political news and world news. Also, people enjoy watching dramas and TV shows. How many hours do you watch TV? I usually watch TV more than three hours per a day. There is a research article which shows that how TV affects to people and children.

(http://kidshealth.org/parent/positive/family/tv_affects_child.html) According to the website, it says too much screen time can interfere with activities such as being physically active, reading, doing homework, playing with friends, and spending time with family.

From these facts, I could know that video has bad effects and good effects.

What kind of life do you want to live and how will video technology influence that?

I really want to be the best industrial designer in the world later. I am going to study some programs which are required to create some industrial designs. I hope video can

help my objects look more great and pretty. For example, in nowadays, many designers use good advertisement company to create good CF because the video really affect to people. Also, i really like to watch dramas, so I hope I can buy 3-D TV in the future.

This project examines how technology is related to the power & authority to shape opinion using and broadcasting video.

Things that i learned

Today, We learned how to record video with disital camera.
I found out that there are alot of function that i can you when i record
Especially, I really like to use white balance.
When we zoom in red color and push the white balance botton, then everything will look like green because opposite color of red is green.
I think i can express feeling of sad and feeling of happy with this function.
Also, we experienced feeling of blinders during class. I coverd my eyes with fabric, and my teacher tolled a bell several times. I had to follow the sound of bell without other people's help.
It was so sad that nobody answered my question during the pratice. I felt so scary that I would hit a tree. It was a great pratice, and it was fun too. I could focus on hearing some sound carefully. After we did this practice, we went outside, and recorded some videos for one hour.
I went mashall street, and recorded the road and people. I found out that many things happen on the road for short time. People were talking, waking, drinking, asking, helping, driving, closing, opening, and finding. Everything was very interesting.

I can not take any pictures or video in casino, so I guess I should make my own casino in my house. I should record a lot of videos, and I should mix them to look like inside of casino. Also, it is possible that i will make my video with abstract videos or images.

Time, sadness, and nervous feeling are most important key words in my theme sound.

Video Techinical Training

1.Name three techniques you can use when trying to shoot steady shots without a tripod.

Whenever you try to record, You should keep your elbows to your body, bend your knees to be stable, and push the button more than ten seconds.

2.How can you minimize camera shake when walking and taping?

You should bend legs to be stable. Whenever you try to record, you should record carefully and slowly. Also, you should move slowly

3. What camera movements mimic the way the eye moves?
1.) Panning- side to side.
2.) tilting- up and down.
4. Why is it important to consider how long you remain on a shot and how quickly you move the camera?
If you do not move carefully and slowly, the picture will be crushed, so people will not know what the picture is clearly.

5. Give at least two examples of how they sugest you can avoid causing seasickness.
You should not try to take many objects at the same time, and you should not zoom in too or zoom out too much

Extra Credit Questions:
6.Go to the homepage of this organization and read a little about their mission.

Part Two

Part two: Comparison of Formal Characteristics Between Abstract Video and Real Life Media

Comparison between sara's abstract video and Final Fantasy 7 - It's my Life AMV ( Anime Music Video ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zhTKKCt8bk

1) Does this video maintain continuity by editing for graphical and rhythmical relationships as well as transitions? Given examples of this using screen shots and written description.

Both of them have good continuty by editing graphical and rhythmical relationship. From the video which is Final Fantasy 7, I could see some rhythmical movement and repetion of fighting scenes. Because of these two aspects, people can get thoughts and story from the video. As like the video, sara also put many similar and same images rhythmically. From her vidoe, I could feel some danger.

Both of them have good introductions. Final Fantasy shows all the characters individually at first, and Sara also started show important pictures slowly as like introduction of the video.

Both of them have great transition. Both of them ended with great sound of stopping.

2) Does the video modulate in pace so that it has sections of slow and fast time?

I think modulation is the most biggest difference between sara's abstract video and Final fantasy. Sara's abstract video is slow at first, and it becomes faster and faster at middle of video. At last, It becoms slow again, but Speed of the Final fantasy video is same at first and end. There is a little bit of change, but I can not see clearly. Final fantasy is kind of video which show people some story.

3) Did the artist try abstracting at least some of the images beyond recognition AKA wreck images? Give examples.

Yes, Final Fantasy had a great abstracting image. It starts with shiny light, and it bocomes fire. Later, people can see that the light is a fire monster knight. Because of the abstracting light, people get more interested in the video. As like the video, Sara also used this method to her abstract video. For example, she also used light and black right before an images of dorm.
Also, both of them moved images horizontally alot.

4) What additional formal aspects are emphasized in this video? Analyze the following:

I really like the images that Sara used because there are some contrasts between light and dark. She put lighter picture right before dark pictures, so it seemed more interesting. Also, She repeated same pictures with some effects again and again, and the shaking part was the most strong part in her video. She used earthquake effect to make the movement. I think it was a very great idea. As like Sara's video, Final Fantasy also has good images of dark and light. However, Final Fantasy has more various colors. It looks more illusion.

Analysis of my abstract video from Sara Luciano

This piece featured several different photos that seemed to be in an automotive theme. I liked how Minji progressivly zoomed in on some of her photos in correlation to the sound piece that she chose. If she could make this video better, I think she could try and better match her images with the sound. Also, I think that it would help if she modified her images a little more. Finally, I believe that this piece could have harnessed more of the formal qualities that we discussed in this project - such as pacing.

Things that i learned in the class 4/9

Today, as soon as i got into class room, we started watching Matrix trailer without sound. I was so interested because that movie was my favorite movie. When i just watched that movie without knowing Time art, i did not care about what kinds skill they used for films to make people get interested, but i could find some characteristics which make it interesting this time. From the video, I learned that we should focus on color temperature, graphical layout, composition of frames, camera angles, proximity, pacing, contrast, repetition, quality of light and sensitivity when we make video for theme sound.
When i watched the trailer, i felt that the person used horizontal and vertical views a lot, and the person used zoom in and zoom out many times. These effects makes viewers focus on the video more. Also, the contrast between light and dark has most strong effect which makes people feel interested.

After we finished watching the trailer, we were separated to two groups, and we started doing critique for our abstract videos. I felt that i should more work on skills of I-movie. I did not know that i can use many different kinds of effect to my images, but after i watched other people's videos, i found out that there are many ways i can change my video more interesting. This week, i will revise my work, and i will focus on matching my images with sound perfectly.

Critique for abstract video 4/9

Sara Luciano
1) Does the video maintain continuity by editing for graphical and rhythmical relationship as well as transitions? Give examples of this using screen shots and written description.

I really liked her abstract video because it has great repeating of images.
There are some particular images which repeat rhythmically until end of the video, so that makes me expect to see the images again and again. Also, the movement of images are so interesting because of following effects.
1.Her video sound really matches with images.
2.Images are shaking and popping when the sound goes faster.
2)Does the video modulate in pace so that it has sections of slow and fast time? Please describe.
At first, images go normally, and when the sound become more complex, the images shakes and go more faster. Because of effects, it was easy to feel the sound and images together deeply.

3)Did the artist try abstracting at least some of the images beyond recognition a.k.a wreck the images? Give examples.
Speed of her abstract video is not fast, so i could recognize every single image
I think there was a picture which i can not recognize, but i can guess that that was tunnel because i took that picture.

4) what additional formal aspects are emphasized in this video?
I really like the images she used because there are some contrasts between light and dark. She put lighter picture right before dark pictures, so it seemed more interesting. Also, She repeated same pictures with some effects again and again, and the shaking part was the most strong part in her video. She used earthquake effect to make the movement. I think it was a very great idea.

A short History of time

“A Short History of Time” at:

http://www.wnyc.org/shows/radiolab/episodes/2007/07/15
Try to in your own words explain why time is not really universal. You may have to listen to it more than once to describe this.

From the audio, I do not think Time is universal because There are a lot of people who are living independently, but i am not saying thay all the people are selfish. I mean people have their own lives. For examples, People usually take care of themselves when they have problems. Nobody will help them before they ask for help, so they should spend time to solve the problem individually. When people take tests, nobody can help them. They should spend time to answer all the questions individually.
From the examples, i just want you to understand that people live for themselve not for other peopl,so sometimes, they should stay alone and spend time indepently. Because of this fact, I think time is not universal.

After listening to “A Short History of Time” consider how being in the zone impacts our senses of duration and tempo. In other words, what happens to the length of a moment, and the speed of time in your mind and body when you are at a state of peak performance?

From the audio, i could know that how being in the zone really impacts our senses of duration and tempo.
When people are performing their the highest peak and important performance, the length of time will be longer and their bodies will move slower than usual.
According to the audio and scientific fact, the person proved that even though people have same common senses, but they feel in different ways. People feel so diffently at same thing. The following sentence really helped me understand theme of the audio. "we are all living different time capsules,”he says, Here is a great example which explain the sentence in detail. when people are running and working very fast, they feel they are fast, and they think they are fast worker and runner, but even though they are going faster, viewers will think runners and workers are not that mouch fast. They look a lot slower then they feel to viewers.

Beyond the purposeful inducement of a state of flow by athletes, musicians, artists, and religious practices, what other means, or reasons, are mentioned in “The Short History of Time” that could change our perceptions and experiences of time? Name at least two very different ways for changing our relationship to time.
There are two very different ways for changing our relationship to time. Two of them are known as take time and personal time.
When people scheduled appointments, events and celebrations, they arrange time to do these activities. From some of these events, people will feel that time goes slowly, but people feel that time goes by faster when they do funny things and enjoy their tasks. The time when people feel this kind feeling is known as take time.
Personal time is more about personal. For example, when they enjoy their birthday parties, they will feel some special things. when a mother holds their child, the mother feel that the time is so special. The mother might feel that one moment time does not move. After the activity, that moment of time possiblely becomes a great memory which the mother will not forget forever.

Given that empathy from person to person is based upon synchronicity, including our unconscious ability to sense and attune ourselves another’s rhythms, such as breath, what are the implications of living according to GMT? What are the pros and cons?

Con:London owns “real time” and everything relate with and work by “me.”

Pro:people have the power to control this entire moment. Can control time, if people want to do something, they have the ability to do.

I will live in the GMT time zone because the hours start at zero. I feel i can get a perfect schedule which is made by me in that zone. I really want to feel and experience the time zone.

Russolo and his colleagues embraced mechanical rhythms and noises. They celebrated not attunement with another human in the present moment, but the future. They were the products of the first mechanized World War, and were terribly disillusioned with Romantic ideals. How has this attitude played itself out our century? Can you think of art forms or media that celebrate the same things Russolo valued?

I think Russolo's attitude is not common in nowadays. People who live in the world are very friendly with songs that are rhythmic. rhyme and movies are related to each other so strongly If movies and songs match with each other so well, people will remember the time forever. I do not agree that people want to hear the random sounds becaouse when people feel happy, they do not want to hear some sad songs which make people cry. In nowdays, everyone carries ipod and mp3. The technology makes people independently. People do not listen to other noise carefully as Russolo thinks
